Resistance and Liberation Update
22 Sep 2005 by Josh Hubi | Half-Life 2 Modification |

Hello there, Resistance and Liberation has posted an update with screens of an ingame GUI for selecting player class and weapon.

quote:

First I would like to take the time to welcome Daniel Minns and Ricky Williams to the RnL family. Daniel will be taking over as our new webmaster and Ricky will be our new addition to the mapping team.

Now on with the goodies, this is just the start of the massive media release we announced earlier in the month. Tonight we are presenting RnL's equipment loadout screen ingame, were calling it a class based system with custom loadout features. As you can see the rifleman is currently selected with the M1 garand, players will also have the choice of the BAR, and M1A1 carbine with the rifleman selection. The interchangable gear is all located within the equipment window, however the more gear you choose to add will reflect on the weight added to your character which will also affect the speed of your character ingame. Additionally all the gear in the equipment window is all visually interchangable in the window displaying the soldier with the currently selected gear on.

As you all might notice the media page is under going a complete overhaul and featured on it is all new shots of Ste Mere Eglise, all of the player models and weapon models featured on it will be added to the site in a different matter later on.
Featured in the post are screens of the new GUI used for selecting player class and weapon, as well as screens from Rnl_St.Mere Eglise. Those are posted here http://www.resistanceandliberation.com/media/85 and here http://www.resistanceandliberation.com/media/

As always Rnl is looking for hard-working, dedicated individuals to work on the team. We are hiring for all positions!

The Survivors : Update
06 Sep 2005 by Josh Hubi | Half-Life 2 Modification |

Source: The Survivors

Not much at the moment is still being created, as far as the weapons and so on go. We're now focusing on getting things in-game, and getting the code working. I'm not sure if I've mentioned this already, but the mod is currently playable. RedG3, our fantastic coder, has already sent over the client and server binaries. The mod at this stage is still very buggy, and a lot needs to be done... but it is playable. I'll contact him in the near future regarding the next release of code. But rest assured, it's being worked on, and soon enough we'll have a playable build for the public.

But since most of our fans are fueled by media, I'll let you all know that I have a few people interested in joining the mod team. These people include 1 skinner, and 2 mappers. So, if they are accepted onto the team, they will bring some new stuff to the media page. While I'm on the subject of media, Aaron Panagos, our concept artist is working on the survivors concepts, so once those are done, Hinkle can get them all modelled out and place them in-game. Right now we're using the Couner-Strike terrorist models as the survivors.

So hang in there, I should be getting something soon to show off. Until then, keep up the support! drop by the forums

Half-Life 2 - Survivor to an arcade near you.
31 Aug 2005 by Josh Hubi | Half-life 2 |

Source: halflife2.net

I'm sure the last game you'd expect to see in a games arcade next to all the racing chairs, plastic guns and Beat 'em Up joysticks is Half-Life 2. Well, Taito has decided to go ahead and put it there anyway, so it looks like Gordon's coming to an arcade machine near you! ...At least, if you live in Japan, that is.

IGN were the ones who discovered this collaberation between VALVe and Taito, and they also reveal that the Japanese company will be debuting the game, named "Half-Life 2 - Survivor", on it's "Type X" hardware.
At last year's announcement of the game, Taito promised a version of Half-Life 2 featuring, in addition to a single player story mode, an Online mode allowing for play between players located in arcades throughout Japan.

Garry's Mod 8.4
29 Aug 2005 by Josh Hubi | Half-Life 2 Modification |

Source: Halflife2.net

in Garry's Mod, you can already create just about anything you can conceive; from war scenes erupting before your eyes, to speeding vehicles built from scratch, or even a fortress made from household objects. However Version 8.4, currently in it's Beta stages, is going to take Gmod to the next level. You're going to make games.

8.4 introduces LUA scripting. What this means is that people can make their own game modes and addon scripts that wouldn't be possible with just mapping. Things like as adding your own console commands, round timers, respawning players, setting player speed, spawning entities dynamically.

During the beta some of the testers have made new game modes. A predator style game similar to The Hidden, a simple tag game, a freeze tag game and some kind of crazy bullet chasing game.

The screenshots displayed above are actually from a game mode, made in Garry's Mod, called "Barrel Mania"- where everyone spawns as a barrel. They can only use crowbars to kill each other, and seeing as there's no way to tell the players apart from the lethal explosives, you have t be extra careful. It’s an example of just what kind of creative scope 8.4 will allow.

Steam update
20 Aug 2005 by Joost | Steam |

In the next month or so there will be a number of Valve products being made available on Steam, but this week we'd like to spotlight a game that is being built using the Source engine.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic has been announced, and is being developed by Arkane Studios. Everyone around Valve played most of the previous Might and Magic games, and we're all big fans of Arkane's previous work. Like a lot of gamers, we're looking forward to playing the finished product.

We'll also be releasing Half-Life: Blue Shift on Steam next week, which will be automatically playable by anyone who owns Half-Life 1, including those who purchased the Half-Life 2 Silver or Gold packages.

Garry's Mod Update
03 Aug 2005 by Josh Hubi | Half-Life 2 Modification |

The famous physics manipulation mod, Garry's Mod, has been updated to Version 8.3b "again." This includes some minor changes, including progress bars for map loading, and a new console command gm_serversidebeams.

  • [ADD] Enabled progress bars on map loading

  • [ADD] Added physics slowmotion in Admin menu (for real this time)

  • [FIX] Exploit allowing clients to run commands on other clients

  • [ADD] gm_serversidebeams - test server-side physgun beams

It makes the physgun beams server side. This means that you can see other people's beams. This is included as a test. There's a client crash that I can't pin down. If you run with serversidebeams enabled and you don't crash all the time then we'll know that the clientside physgun beams were causing the crash.

Perfect Dark mod news update
24 Jul 2005 by Joost | Half-Life 2 Modification |

[CODING]
We haven't talked of it yet, but now we do. Even if the HUD is still on standby, Slowrage worked a lot on the teams management, so now 2 to 4 teams can fight using the upcoming different battle modes. He also worked on the scoreboard and prepared us a nice team selection menu. Here are some screenshots of his work.

As in the original game, the teams are recognized by their colored skin but we are working on a more discrete way to do it.

Finally, the game mode « King of the hill » is almost finished, and concrete elements will be shown up to you in a future news.

XoD is not asleep either, he is working very hard on the weapons. He has already integrated many weapons but some of them still need to be finished. The Falcon 2 (one hand), The Laptop Gun, The Farsight, The Cyclone (one hand), The CMP150 (one hand), The DY357 (one hand), The DY357LX (one hand).

Please note that we are making the Mod so that it can be played in as many languages as possible.

[MODELING]
The modeling team is working on the W_models of the integrated weapons and on some characters. Some other weapons models have been done and only need to be textured.

[MUSIC]
A talented artist, named Krispy, has joined the Dev-Team. We hope to show you soon some of his work in the "Media" section.

[COMMUNITY MANAGER]
The Webmaster is having some dificulties, so the Spanish, German and Italian versions of the website will probably get delayed. However, there will soon be a page set up to contact the Community Managers.

Pour rappel les voicis :
. en LAmetHIng!
. en mathieumg
. al MaSTeR-Tobias

. it Gil-Milzor (c'est proposer pour l'italien mais n’est pas encore inclus)

Their work is to translate and do the communication between the community and the Dev-Team.

[LOGO]
The Dev-Team proposed to realize a logo for the Mod. If you are interessed by this, submit us your work on the forums or by email at: contact@pdark-mod.com. If possible in vectorial or in a 16/16 32/32 et 128/128 serie.

[YOU]
A lot of people are contacting us because they'd like to help us or are willing to join the Dev-Team. A new section has opened on the forums to clear out things. That way, we will be able to invite those who proposed themselves, for example, as a ‘Voice Actor’ when the time will come. We are, by the way, always interessed by new help in every domains.

[Custom Map]
Some people would already like to create some ‘Custom’ maps for the Mod. We invite you to submit us your custom maps once they are done and playable and we will help you to finalize them for the Mod so that they can be delivered with it. On a side note, please try to respect the game spirit.

available here
. The team claim they are about
50 to 60% through reaching the public beta stage. The team also says they plan to include more weapon renders in the next media release.

If you were a fan of the N64 game by

Hey all,
My name is Terry Moenkhaus, I'm a coder over at LNMB. Our site is http://lnmb.hl2files.com

Our mod is about Operation: Gothic Serpent and Operation: Restore Hope, two US operations in Somalia in the early 90's. This is the same confilct depicted in the movie Black Hawk down.

We hope to make the most realilistic game possible and still have it fun. From possibly pilotable Helos to customizing your weapon, we want you to feel like you were there. You will be able to play as US or Somalia. Maps will be expansive and highly accessible.

We are planning on implementing several game types, from Convoy, where the US must safely escort a convoy of vehicles back to Mogadishu Airport, to Raid, where the US will try to capture/destroy weapons caches.

Unfortnately, we can't get there alone, we need your help. We are looking for a Player Modeler and Texture Artist. If you or someone you know can help us, post at the forums at LNMB or PM me please.

Hostile Planet - Source engine taking on MMO's?
05 Apr 2005 by Josh Hubi | |

With the release of a great engine like source, there comes great games- and as many of you, no doubt, have speculated, hoped and dreamed for there will be some pretty swanky stuff flying out of the Source engine's proverbial behind in the coming year.

One such area that will be hitting the fan is the Massively multiplayer scene, as was demonstrated by development on an upcoming XORG (eXtreme Online Roleplaying Game) Twilight War Now that is all very well and good but a game released from a reputable publisher on the Source Engine doesn't have the same flair and intimacy that a lovingly crafted good ol' community mod has, and that's where Hostile Planet comes in!

With some very promising screenshots on their site and an interesting story to boot, it seems that our very own community will be giving the big guns in the MMO world a run for their money, not much has been said about the technology behind the networking of a Source MMO but their site is informative, clean and if you're an MMOFPS/XORG fan like me you'll be wetting your silk panties right about now. Their screenshots section is quite a thing of beauty with a very interesting shot of an in-game HTML browser. So Check it out. Here's some screenshots to wet your whistle:
