Bathroom Gaming
28 Mar 2006 by Josh Hubi | News Bit |

Over the years there has been quite a bit of innovation in gaming, 3D graphics, real life physics, etc. There is one area that no designer has even thought about touching though, that is, until now.

As if going to the bathroom weren't exciting enough, now it can be made into a competitive gaming experience. Marcel Neundorfer has created a new urinal game titled "On Target," which features "water" sensitive pressure points connected to an LCD screen. Players score points by hitting random targets that appear on the screen with whatever liquids happen to be handy at the time.

So get the buddies together, and place those bets - there is going to be a new game to play at the bar.

Steam Update
28 Mar 2006 by Josh Hubi | Steam |

Valve has just released a new Steam update. The update talks about a new integration of Metacritic into Steam, which gives an average score of all critical reviews of the game.

quote:

Starting today, games available for purchase in the Steam store will display their Metascore (from metacritic.com), which is a numeric measure of the game's critical consensus at a glance. The Metascore is created by taking a weighted average of critic grades. We really couldn't think of a more honest, efficient, and independent source of information about game quality. We hope you agree.

Deconstruction of HL2 Blog
28 Mar 2006 by Josh Hubi | Half-life 2 |

The Deconstruction of HL2 Blog basically rips apart Half-Life 2 piece by piece. Each level is analyzed using screenshots, and by marking every single scripted sequence, gameplay event, story and gameplay hint and architecture highlight. The effect that each of them achieves on the player experience is also listed. This is a nice guide to the beginner, or even for the advanced, scripter or user of the Source Engine and the game Half-Life 2.

Irvine, CA - March 16, 2006 - Turtle Rock Studios, the independent studio that has co-developed recent Counter-Strike games with Valve, today announces a new Source-based title in development for the PC, to be released via Valve's Steam online platform for digital distribution.

Turtle Rock Studios was founded by Michael Booth in 2002, and has grown to include industry veterans who have contributed to such titles as Nox, Red Alert II: Yuri's Revenge, and Command & Conquer: Generals.

"Working with Source and Steam allows us unprecedented flexibility in our development process, provides instantaneous world-wide distribution, and affords us the creative freedom to focus on building a game universe of our very own." said Booth. "We're excited to be working with this technology and to reveal more about the project over the coming year."
